About Us

Traditional lion dancing is not just a performance. Deeply rooted in our style of lion dance is our own southern Jow Gar Kung Fu.

There are strong influences of cultural Buddhist and Taoist traditions. Ceremonies, requiring a high level practitioner in order to execute them correctly. The knowledge passed down from generation of master to master.

These ceremonial traditions are powerful and will clear out negative or stale energy from a place or person; ushering in a new start with a strong flow of fresh, vibrant energy.

This means, whatever the event, a lion dance performance brings positivity, abundance, and joy through it's process.

Loud upbeat music, colourful and bright lions, excited and keen performers who have trained diligently to bring you every success and joy on your special day.

For your performance you can experience this through:

Picking greens or 採青 choi cheng/cai qing.

During a traditional lion dance performance the lions will enter a space, clear the energy of a space then pick a green vegetable placed somewhere inside or hanging in the doorway, usually a lettuce.

Then throwing or "spitting" the greens inside the property which signifies abundance, good fortune, and lots of money coming in.

This is the most common blessing. A mandarin orange, pomelo, or pineapple can also be gifted to a shrine or person for strong health and success.

  Smashing a Watermelon

A lion discovers and circles in on a watermelon, only to smash it in half with it's paw!

The 2 halves are then gifted to the host to signify good will, abundance, and happiness.

The watermelon can alternatively be smashed to spread the juicy red pulp everywhere for good luck.

Some believe it can signify cutting any difficulties the new year may bring in twain, removing the obstacles, and bringing abundance.

A very fun and tasty show to watch for all.

  Bench show

The lion will demonstrate high levels of coordination, strength, and acrobatic capability; defying all odds in order to gift the host a lettuce, orange and to kick down weapons for practitioners to perform a special kung fu show.

Signifying a year ahead of resilience, strength, and ability to overcome all odds in order to succeed. This performance is exciting and inspiring to watch.

This impressive performance is usually accompanied by a skilled kung fu demonstration.
